Augmensys presents at the Digital Enterprise in Vienna: new ways to the future – Industry 4.0

On the 5th of May, the Digital Enterprise Conference took place at the Novomatic Center in Vienna. Numerous well-known guests discussed the issue of digitalization. Robots as daily helpers, digital mobility and artificial intelligence were just some of them.

In order to cover the area of digitization in the industry-sector, our CEO Helmut Guggenbichler was invited. He explained approaches towards industry 4.0 in the context of industrial mobile solutions and demonstrated how mobile data management with Augmented Reality enables the transition from “big data” to “smart data” – filtered, valuable data – and thus to become master of the partly worthless data flood again.

He also discussed the benefits and the possibilities of AR applications and demonstrated this live with the Microsoft HoloLens®. All in all, it was a very successful event, which showed that the paths that are used in the field of digitization are manifold and, above all, already viable.

Review: HMI 2018 – “Connect & Collaborate”

210,000 visitors were counted at this year’s Hannover Messe International (HMI), which naturally delighted the more than 5,000 exhibitors from 75 nations! Under the slogan “Connect & Collaborate”, renowned leaders of the international technology industry met to discuss opportunities and challenges of digitization, and to present the latest developments in that area.

Augmensys was represented in cooperation with Vinci Energies (partner and shareholder of Augmensys). Due to Vincis strong focus on new technologies, the trade fair appearance was designed accordingly and both, Helmut Guggenbichler and Alexander Mankel, had the chance to display Augmensys at a stunning booth in a top location.

The basic concept of UBIK on a tablet was demonstrated to enthusiastic customers, but the highlight was the UBIK-HoloLens-showcase: visitors could get their hands on the wearable and experience the possibilities of the new technology in a fully working, miniature production facility right on the booth.

The fair was also a complete success in other respects. Exciting discussions led to new customer contacts and a closer cooperation with the renowned manufacturer of industrial hardware, Ecom, was also initiated.

UBIK – now on iOS!

We are proud to announce that we’re extending the UBIK^® ecosystem to the iOS platform soon. While most of our regular users still require rugged devices for their daily work, which has always excluded iOS as a valid operating system (no, we still don’t believe in casings, sorry), there is a growing number of UBIK^®-users that work within a limited, but interesting scope.

The maintenance manager, who wants to get a quick overview on the status of work during a meeting with the production manager, is certainly one of them. The operator in the control room, external staff in non-hazardous areas during commissioning, or workers in facility management scenarios are other examples, and there are many more.

But it won’t just be yet another UBIK^® client. It will leverage the full capabilities of our well-proven UWP-client under the hood, while still being native to iOS for full performance. And we even made our XAML-templating technology available there. This will enable our customers to leverage the full power of Apple Hard- and Software, tailor data models perfectly to their needs (as usual in UBIK^®) and also shape the User Interface of the App to maximize user-acceptance.

Into the future with high speed! Augmensys wins the “Future of Maintenance” – Challenge of Deutsche Bahn (German Railways)

On February 20^th in Berlin, the time had come and the decision was made on the “future of maintenance” of Deutsche Bahn.

13 preselected companies tried to get the responsible persons of Deutsche Bahn excited for their companies and ideas. Only five of these have emerged as potential partners and were chosen as winners of the challenge. Among them was Augmensys – who is more than predestined as a partner in matters of digitization and maintenance, for a place at the triumphant throne!

From March 2018 on Augmensys will develop a prototype project together with Deutsche Bahn, which will deal with a more efficient maintenance management supported by UBIK.

UBIK 3 – Launch

In just a few days, UBIK 3 will be officially available to all our customers. This is a big milestone for us and in the following we want to summarize the most important changes that come with this version.

SmartModelling

UBIK 3 will introduce a whole new data modelling experience (“SmartModelling”), that is now an integral part of the suite. SmartModelling will not only dramatically speed up the creation of UBIK Applications, but it will also allow for seamless data exchange across UBIK Servers and thus enable true global collaboration. To make the transition for UBIK engineers as smooth as possible, SmartModelling is fully compatible with the existing UBIK Studio and its data models, leaving the decision when to use it completely with the experts.

Improved Interfaces

Some of our most important interface components have been greatly upgraded with UBIK 3.

The SAP Interface now connects more transactions than ever before and supports stateful communications for complex interface scenarios.

The OPC UA Interface was augmented with a UI for data point browsing, to simplify node addressing against large automation systems.

The COMOS Interface now has the ability to automatically create UBIK Proxy objects during import, which will reduce integration efforts significantly.

Universal Windows Platform

The UBIK Windows client was lifted to the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and this will enable the use of some very exciting features that come with Windows 10.

One of the most apparent changes is the new In-App Annotation feature, which makes use of the newest Microsoft inking techniques and creates a completely new experience when redlining documents of all kind.

The new Hotspotting features will change the way you work with legacy data. UBIK objects and properties can now be placed directly in existing documents, transforming the actual piece of paper into an intelligent user interface.

UBIK 3 also ships with In-App remote support functions, empowering users to request video and audio support directly from their current context of work.

Universal Client Foundation (UCF)

We extracted the UBIK Client Platform and made it completely portable across operating systems. This means that any App can from now on make use of the UBIK Platform with its powerful features across Client and Server. Due to this, our customers and any 3rd party can now create their own mobile UI, for the operating system of their choice (Android, iOS, Windows) and use as many features of the UBIK platform as needed.

Augmented & Mixed Reality

The UBIK Hololens App was greatly improved and now allows the handling of tasks and the creation and placement of notifications in the mixed reality world. Since UBIK 3, Hololens placement information is persisted and shared across devices through the UBIK platform, enabling all devices with the same data models and empowering the Hololens with all the core UBIK features like enterprise connectivity, offline data and delta-sync handling etc.

UBIK 3 reinvents robust marker tracking and combines it with the power of a UBIK data model. New algorithms merge optical tracking and sensor data for the most reliable identification of binary markers, but in UBIK tracking is not where it ends, but actually only where it starts: once tracked, the full flexibility of UBIK data models come into play and supplies the right content, ensuring true scalability for industrial use cases. If markers aren’t the right choice, UBIK 3 also integrates with the all new ARCore from Google, ARKit from Apple and the Microsoft Mixed Reality Platform, bringing these exciting new kits right into industrial applications.
